Professor Shuichi KATAI

He is President of the Japan Traditional Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society (JTAMS), one of leading MTJ practitioner association in Japan. He is also Vice President of the World Federation of Acupuncture - Moxibustion Societies (WFAS) and participates in the work of the World Health Organization (WHO) about Oriental Medicine.

Palpation

Palpation in Japanese acupuncture is characterized by the fact that all information relating to skin, connective tissue, muscles, tendons and bones become the main subject of palpation. This is usefull not only to study the condition of the acupuncture points, but also to study the condition of the whole body. Depending on the region of the body, the palm or the fingers are used in different ways.

Soft stimulation

Japanese practitioners have studied extensively how to achieve a significant effect in treatment using very thin needles and very soft stimulation. For example, in Japan today, needles are used that simply touch the skin or are inserted under the skin with the tip of the needle or needles inserted into the muscle depth.
The filiform needles are the most commonly used, with a diameter of 0.12 to 0.18 mm and a length of 40 to 60 mm.

Japanese moxibustion

Japanese moxibustion has a rich array of techniques requiring more or less dexterity. The use of soft heat allows, just like Japanese acupuncture, and sometimes in addition to acupuncture, to change the body's condition with gentle but effective stimulation. This technique, particularly pleasant, is very appreciated by the consultants.
